😭😭😭 Thank you buddy!! Your blog is also a fantastic resource for all things taub-related!
As a compulsive screenshotter with a pretty decent graphic system, this is the one very useful service I can render to our little fandom community lol. I am always so honored when folks use them as references for art and whatnot!
I love @taub-truther blog because this is the best source of taub photos i swear to god

okay, despite the . . . everything happening with NaNoWriMo, the idea of Try To Write Some Words In November remains appealing to me. so. here on scribefindegil dot tumblr dot com this is officially Shitty First Draft Month, where I try to force myself to write shitty first drafts of my various projects. no word counts no expectations just vibes. priorities:
Time Is Out Of Joint (technically much of this will be Passable Intermediate Drafts but that's fine. shitty first drafts are a state of mind)
acts 2 and 3 of the Jennifer longfic
Brassica Heresy (yes it's been nearly a year since I updated no it's not abandoned. we WILL get to the thematically resonant broccoli facts if it kills me)
I am NOT allowed to give up immediately even if Tuesday plunges me into existential despair. I am also not allowed to let this become a shield of arguably productive procrastination and use it to hide from the scary emails.
let's go.

I feel like the Percy Jackson fandom’s collective fatal flaw is forgetting that the books’ original target audience was 4th graders from 2005

When I was a teenager I felt like an outsider, isolated even surrounded by people. My chemistry teacher once described it as "being on the other side of a fishbowl" and I have never felt so seen and called out at the same time.

Two things:
1. Internet and data haven’t existed for me for 3-4 days now so that explains me going offline
2. We are T-minus 3 days from Direst going absolutely feral and getting to attend a convention once again

i'm generally very skeptical of self-diagnosis/using webmd and the like to interpret symptomatology, but given the cesspool of medical info on the internet i understand why people fall down self-diagnosis and/or weird new age wellness rabbit holes so easily. like i had more or less pathological (i.e. daily) sensations of déjà rêvé (déjà vu sensation but applied from dreams to real life situations) in high school and according to the internet it's one of the following conditions: 1. temporal lobe epilepsy, 2. a completely benign indicator of good spatial memory, or 3. a curse derived from ancestral knowledge pools. i'm fairly certain i don't have epilepsy because ive never had a seizure in my life, and i don't believe in curses so i have to assume it's the second thing combined with my preexisting psychologic conditions - but those shouldn't be the most widely publicized diagnoses!! the two extremes of psychiatric raison d'être if you will shouldn't be fighting for dominion over the front page of google. psychiatry as a field is not without its faults and new age psychology is a whole nother can of worms, but people (especially people under duress/experiencing new and unfamiliar symptoms) shouldn't have to wade through eighty-nine line-items of sponsored content that are either poorly-vetted fearmongering or just straight up pseudoscience

Me, a few weeks ago, talking to @historian-crown my ever wonderful European beta reader: "I don't say where everybody specifically lives, but I do have a mental map in my head. Which means Secundo would probably have this regional accent." *Sends TikTok video example*
Crown: "No, that's ridiculous you can't tell me that--"
Me: "Oh yeah and Marian would have THIS regional accent, this is how she could sound!" *Sends another one*
Crown: "No, that's horrible you can't even understand half the words, what?!!"
Not to worry, Ghesties, Terzo is still Italian

It's been a while since my aftg posting run, but I really forgot just how much aftg fans actually interact with posts. idk if there are fewer overall posts, more fans dedicated to finding every single one, or they're just the only ones who find my jokes funny. Either way, this is an appreciation post. I think it's cool. It's fun when people like and rebloog. Whatever powers the aftg fandom to do it extra is good and I love it

Tomorrow I will have been in fandom for thirty years.
I can mark the anniversary very precisely because I know the name of the first fanfic I ever read, which is fortunately archived online along with the date it was posted, the same day I read it. I don't believe Usenet exists anymore and I've been here too long to believe that nothing ever disappears off the internet, so I know that archives are truly a gift to history.
I posted my first fanfic not that long after. It wasn't well-written but reading it today I can see that the narrative was sound. People said they liked it, which was kind given how extremely bad my grammar was. I was an awkward teenager with undiagnosed ADHD and praise was rare for me, but when I wrote fanfic someone always said something kind about it. Eventually a few of them took me under their wing and explained things like "where quotation marks go" and "paragraph breaks". Commas, I fear, are a lost cause even today, but they tried, bless them.
I thought about doing something big to commemorate the anniversary, but I couldn't really think what I might do and the world right now is pretty exhausting. I'm forty five and I'm tired. But imagine how much more exhausting the world would be without fandom -- how much emptier my life would be without my friends, this community, the writing I do, the art and beauty fandom exposes me to. So for now I'm just meditating on that a bit -- the richness of the experience, the gifts I've been fortunate to receive, the lessons I've been fortunate (if sometimes reluctant) to learn.
In another thirty years I'll be seventy five, if I live so long. Thirty years ago we didn't in any meaningful sense have digital cameras, let alone cellphones or smartphones, social media, streaming television, GPS. I did a report on the science of cloning for my high school biology class (on the suggestion of a fellow fan) a year before Dolly was cloned. I wrote my first fanfic using a computer running Windows version 3.1. I wrote it in Notepad, still a constant companion.
I hope I live to seventy five. As tired as I am, I'm looking forward to seeing where the next thirty years will take us.
I hope Notepad will still be there.
